APRA are proud to announce the five finalist songs in line for New Zealand's most prestigious song writing prize, the APRA Silver Scroll Award for 2012:

APRA are proud to announce the five finalist songs in line for New Zealand's most prestigious song writing prize, the APRA Silver Scroll Award for 2012:

"State Houses By The River" written by Adam McGrath - performed by The Eastern (Native Tongue Music Publishing)

"Girl In Stilettos" written by Anna Macdonald - performed by Annah Mac

"Everything To Me" written by Stephanie Brown - performed by Lips

"Getaway Tonight" written by Kody Nielson - performed by Opossom (Mushroom Music Pty Ltd)

"Hibernate" written and performed by Lydia Cole


"It's our privilege to celebrate the best music of 2012 as judged by the music maker's themselves", says APRA's Anthony Healey. "The Silver Scroll is unique as it shines the light on songs that have or will indeed in the future make a difference. This year is no exception".

Three weeks of intense voting from the 8,000+ APRA members have determined the five finalist songs, which will be performed at the APRA Silver Scroll Awards. Under the leadership of Music Director Jon Toogood (Shihad, The Adults), unique renditions of each song will be performed at the invite only APRA Silver Scroll Awards on Thursday 13th September at the Auckland Town Hall.

APRA are also excited to announce the finalists for the SOUNZ Contemporary Award and the APRA Maioha Award.

The finalists for the SOUNZ Contemporary Award - celebrating contemporary classical composition - are: 


"Four Questions, No Answers" written by Kenneth Young (chamber ensemble) 

"[inner]" written by Alex Taylor (solo viola and orchestra) 

"The Juniper Passion" written by Michael Williams, John Davies (librettist) (chamber opera)


Celebrating contemporary Maori music, the finalists for the APRA Maioha Award are:

"I Am A Child" written and performed by Ria Hall 


"Pounamu"
written by Ahorangi Winitana, Sidney Diamond & Josh Fountain - performed by Ahorangi featuring Sidney Diamond (Woodcut Productions Ltd)

"Matahîapo" written by Te Awanui Reeder, David Atai & Scotty Morrison - performed by AWA (Mushroom Music Pty Ltd)

Also on the night, in recognition of the contribution music has made to New Zealand's culture and heritage, there will be another induction to the New Zealand Music Hall Of Fame. Set up in 2007 with RIANZ, the 2012 inductee(s) will join the ranks of Ray Columbus & The Invaders, The Topp Twins, Johnny Devlin, Jordan Luck, Richard Nunns, Hirini Melbourne, Straitjacket Fits, Shihad and The Fourmyula.
