Kaaterama Pou

Born into a world of music through kapa haka and gospel, Kaateramas’ endowed abilities as a vocalist and brass player has seen her emerge as Aotearoa’s newest female Māori music sensation.

Recipient of The Waiata Māori Music Award for Best Emerging Artist 2017, star of reality TV series ‘Voices of the Future’ and female vocalist for Māori music pop sensations Maimoa, Kaaterama brought us her debut EP entitled ‘Kia Kaaterama – Shine Your Light’ November 2018, the very first Māori-language youth-gospel EP to hit Aotearoa airwaves with critical charting success.

Travelling to Taiwan to produce her very first music video ‘He iti’, Kaaterama calls upon indigenous youth across the globe to lead their countries in kaitiakitanga and environmental stewardship.

In 2019 Kaaterama was named one of three finalists in the APRA Silver Scroll Maioha Award for her original composition ‘Paiheretia’ which featured on her debut EP ‘Kia Kaaterama’. Kaaterama went on to record and release ‘Paiheretia’ in a live te reo Maori gospel visual album released January 2020, alongside national Māori music icons such as Troy Kingi, Rob Ruha and Ria Hall.

Infused with signature haka-soul hooks and old-school gospel sensibilities Kaaterama is breaking musical ground and paving the way for a new generation of Māori music as a critically acclaimed solo artist in her own right.
