The 18-year-old singer made the video this year when she was on an indigenous exchange experience between the people of Taiwan and rangatahi of Aotearoa, supported by the Taiwan Tourism Bureau.

The main theme of ‘He iti' is kaitiakitanga or environmental stewardship. The song calls on rangatahi all over the world to look to the teachings of their indigenous cultures as a guide to taking care of their Taiao or natural environments.

Kaaterama wanted to shoot this video while she was in Taiwan to make the statement that no matter where you come from on earth, we all share the same planet so we all have to take care of it together! It's a call to rangatahi all over the globe to look after mother nature.

Kaaterama released SHINE YOUR LIGHT last week, with a special performance at Ratana's centenary celebrations.

A blend of pop and R'n'B, with an Aotearoa-influenced flavour of gospel, SHINE YOUR LIGHT is an uplifting and spiritual collection of songs, sung in te reo, showcasing a unique and remarkable new talent.

SHINE YOUR LIGHT EP was released on Thursday November 8.

Before releasing her solo EP, Kaaterama first came to attention with her distinctive and powerful voice in Maimoa Music, a Māori pop group, which has had more than 5 million views on their video ‘Wairua' feat. Willie Wairua.
